Product Maintenance

To succeed with TPU 64D, you must adjust your hardware setup and handling workflow:

The Crucial Drying Workflow: TPU is notoriously hygroscopic (it aggressively absorbs moisture from the air). Wet TPU will boil in the hotend, causing rough surfaces, excessive stringing, and microscopic bubbles that ruin layer adhesion. You must dry the spool at 70°C for 8 hours before use, even if it is fresh out of the package.

Active Storage: Because it absorbs moisture so rapidly, do not leave it on an open spool holder. Keep the filament in a dedicated dry box while printing, maintaining the internal humidity below 15%.

Upsize Your Nozzle: Flashforge officially recommends swapping to a 0.6mm nozzle. The high rigidity and viscosity of 64D create significant pressure inside the hotend. A 0.4mm nozzle will work, but it dramatically increases the risk of a nozzle clog or extruder gear stripping.

Control Your Speed: While 64D is much stiffer than standard TPU, you must still respect its elasticity. Keep print speeds constrained (between 50–150 mm/s) to ensure consistent flow and prevent the extruder from grinding the filament.

Question: How is TPU 64D different from TPU 95A?

Answer: TPU 95A is measured on the Shore A scale, meaning it is soft, highly stretchy, and rubbery (think of a flexible phone case). TPU 64D is measured on the Shore D scale, making it much harder, semi-rigid, and tough (think of a skateboard wheel or a hard-hat suspension band).

Question: Can I use this in an AMS or multi-material feeder?

Question: Why is my TPU 64D print coming out stringy with popping noises?
